About Me

Welcome to Stitchable History! I sell stitching patterns that use modern cross stitch technique to recreate famous pieces of historical art, design, and heraldry. I have been cross stitching since childhood and designing my own patterns for almost a decade.

My initial spark came from my favorite piece of art, the Bayeux Tapestry. This 11th century masterpiece of embroidered wool on linen captured my imagination many years ago, and I never get tired of looking at it. I wanted to stitch some parts of the tapestry myself and decided to create my own patterns. Along the way, I got more ideas for other patterns and Stitchable History was born.

My inspiration still comes from my love of art, particularly the many wonderful pieces I was introduced to during my postgraduate studies in medieval history. I love doing research and each of my patterns includes information about the historical background of the design.

I design and stitch all the patterns myself before listing them for sale. I aim to make my patterns accessible to as many stitchers as possible, so my designs only use simple stitches (cross stitch, stem stitch, and French knots), and are designed to be done using widely available materials. Of course, stitchers are welcome to use hand dyed fabric or specialty threads instead, but the patterns will still look beautiful with basic DMC or Anchor threads and plain Aida fabric. I also intentionally limit my color palette so frugal stitchers (like me!) can use the same colors on multiple designs, rather than needing to purchase new skeins of thread for every pattern.

I hope you enjoy my patterns and I welcome your feedback and suggestions!
